Last Tuesday’s game against the San Francisco giants was a game to remember it’s also a game we might look back on during the season and say hey thank goodness we came back and won that game it might end up being meaningful towards the half way point of the season.
Of course the game didn’t start out like we wanted it to but it did start out good for the dbacks corbin carroll lead off the game with an inside the park homerun in which the baseball bounced of his head as he was running towards home plate it looked like it hurt really bad. after dbacks took the lead in the bottom of the first inning ryne nelson would give up three earned runs in the top half of the second to the giants including back to back home runs to Rafael Devers & Willy Adames. I was thinking oh great it’s going to be a rough night for Ryne Nelson.
Dbacks starters have been phenomenal so far this month after having a rough start to start out the season with many of our starting pitchers bouncing back from very rough starts including Merrill Kelly & Zac Gallen. thankfully Nelson settled down after giving up three runs to the giants he would settle down after having one bad inning which was a relief.
Dbacks offense however was a different story after scoring double digits to open up the series on Monday night the bats were silent after corbin carroll hit an inside the park homerun in the first inning was very frustrating they would load up the bases back to back inning only to ground out into double plays both times was so frustrating to watch every time we’d get excited feeling like the big hit was coming time for them to take the lead only for them to do the same thing over and over.
Then the ninth inning came around dbacks were only down two runs and we had some of our good bats coming up I wasn’t feeling that great about the ninth with how the offense was going most of the night I was just hoping we didn’t have to see another double play in the game. Illdemaro Vargas lead off the inning with a base hit that was a very good sign the next two batters would unfortunately strike out there was only two outs in the game the Adrian Del Castillo would come up and hit a double scoring Vargas dbacks now were only down by a run the snakes were still alive.
Ryan Waldschmidt would come up to bat he would get a free pass to first after giants catcher had catches interference it was almost like a gift given to the dbacks with how the offense had been all night my heart was racing it was almost like I knew something good was about to happen I could feel it Ketel Marte would come up to bat with two guys on base it’s always very nerve racking watching your team play bottom of the ninth with two outs. giants were one strike away from winning this game until Ketel Marte hit a three run walk off homerun to win the game for the dbacks I couldn’t believe it I was screaming jumping up and down couldn’t believe he just hit a homerun and we won the game that was also Ketel Marte first ever walk off homerun he was very teary eyed afterwards very humble in his postgame interview such a fun game.
Now being a Dbacks you never really know what your going to get from this team they tend to surprise there fans each game with the dramatics also know why this team has nicknames such as the answerbacks & snakes alive for how resilient this dbacks team is you really can never ever count the dbacks out of any game they always seem to find a way to beat you when you least expected it.
Of course I was too excited to sleep that night after Ketel Marte’s Walk off homerun.
